CSSHL graduate Hirose signs with Red Wings

Canadian Sport School Hockey League graduate Taro Hirose has signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Detroit Red Wings.

Hirose, 22, spent the past three seasons with the University of Michigan, compiling 116 points (33-83-116) in 106 career NCAA games.

The Calgary, Alta. product spent three seasons in the CSSHL attending the Edge School from 2011-2014, which included winning the 2013 CSSHL Midget Prep Championship and the 2014 CSSHL Midget Prep Division MVP award.

In total, Hirose netted 70 points (31-39-70) in 48 career Midget Prep Division games and 38 points (24-14-38) in 25 career Midget Varsity Division games.

After graduating from the Edge School, the 5-foot-10 forward spent two seasons in the BCHL with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks, registering 121 points (33-88-121) in 116 games.

Hirose becomes the fourth CSSHL product currently in the Detroit Red Wings system, joining Dennis Cholowski, Joe Hicketts, David Pope and Michael Rasmussen.
