CSSHL AGM Takes Place in Toronto

The Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) AGM took place in Toronto, ON June 11-13 2024 with the Governors and Independent Board of Directors meeting to discuss a variety of topics for the upcoming season.

Representatives from all 37 CSSHL member programs met for the second time this year, having previously met for the semi-annual meeting in Calgary, AB back in February.

Balmoral Hall School (Winnipeg, MB), Fort Erie International Academy (Fort Erie, ON), King’s-Edgehill School (Windsor, NS), Lower Canada College (Montreal, QC) and Selwyn House School (Westmount, QC) were all officially welcomed to the tables as new member programs for 2024/25.

Calgary International Hockey Academy (CIHA), Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX), Ulysse Academie, Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy, Yale Hockey Academy and STAR Hockey Academy were all officially approved by vote as a full-time member after receiving Associate Member status for the 2023/24 season.

After presenting to the Governors, Kuper Academy (Kirkland, QC) and Stanstead College (Stanstead, QC) were accepted into the CSSHL, bringing the league to a total of 39 member programs across Canada and the USA.

The second day of the AGM saw all CSSHL Member Programs participate in working sessions and Task Teams to discuss ways to improve the CSSHL.

The CSSHL has elected to use ‘MyHockeyRankings’ for both Ranked Showcase and Playoff Standings.

The CSSHL has voted to renew their agreement with the Aimability Education Series.

All CSSHL member programs are required to deliver yearly education topics to all of their student-athletes. The Life and Citizenship Series is a league-wide webinar series encompassing a diverse set of skills and values contributing to the short and long-term development of the CSSHL community. After receiving feedback from both student-athletes, their families, and CSSHL coaches, the 2024/25 season will see nine separate presentations with some of the top experts in the respective topics below:

  • Digital Ethics and Internet Safety
  • Drugs, Alcohol and Vaping
  • Racism and Diversity in Sport
  • Sexual Misconduct and Harassment
  • Understanding Mental Health
  • Training a Performance Mindset – Developing Consistent Confidence
  • Training a Performance Mindset – Vision, Motivation, and Common Adversity
  • High Performance Nutrition
  • Transferable Life Skills Beyond Hockey

Jason Kerswill (Vice Chair) was elected as Vice-Chair while Kelly Shields (Committee Member), Nathan Fischer (Committee Member) and Nichole Collins (Committee Member) were all elected to the Executive Operations Committee (EOC) joining Andy Oakes (Chair), Andre Savage (Committee Member) and Denise Chalifoux (Committee Member). Kerswill previously served on the EOC as a Committee Member while Oakes was re-elected, having run unopposed.
