Chiefs Sign First Rounders

The Spokane Chiefs have signed both of their first round picks from the 2023 Western Hockey League (WHL) Drafts last week to WHL Scholarship and Development Agreements. 

The Chiefs selected Brody Gillespie first overall at the WHL U.S. Priority Draft and Mathis Preston third overall at the WHL Prospects Draft.

Gillespie spent the 2022/23 Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) season with the RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna U15 Prep team. In 28 games the Portland, OR forward finished 10th in league scoring with 54 points in 28 games.

Preston has spent the last two seasons in the CSSHL U15 Prep division with Okanagan Hockey Academy (OHA). During the 2021/22 campaign Preston finished with 15 goals and 14 assists in 22 games played. This season the Penticton, BC forward finished third in league scoring with 81 points in 26 games.
