Benincasa, Giesbrecht Commit to Ferris State

Luigi Benincasa and Gavin Giesbrecht have committed to NCAA Division I program Ferris State University.

Benincasa spent the 2019/20 season in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) with the OHA Edmonton U18 Prep team. He would finish third in league scoring with 73 points in 36 games. His 34 goals and 73 points were team highs, while his 39 assists were tied for second most.

The Edmonton, AB forward would join the Spruce Grove Saints in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) for the 2020/21 season, recording 3 goals and 8 assists in 19 games. In 56 games last season Benincasa finished third in team scoring, recording 36 goals and 32 assists.

This season Benincasa led all Saints skaters with 79 points in 60 games, good enough for sixth in league scoring.

Giesbrecht spent three seasons with Yale Hockey Academy. The Abbotsford, BC forward joined the program for the 2018/19 U15 season, recording 27 points in 30 games. The following season he would finish with 35 points in 36 U16 Prep games. During the 2020/21 season Giesbrecht would add three points in five U18 Prep games.

Giesbrecht spent the 2022/23 season in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) with the Coquitlam Express. In 53 games he scored 18 goals and 16 assists.

Ferris State University is located in Big Rapids, Michigan, competing in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA)
