The Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) announced today that Warner Hockey School will compete in the CSSHL Female Division starting in the 2016-17 season.
Located approximately 65 km south of Lethbridge, AB, Warner Hockey School has had a long history of developing female student-athletes that have gone on to play in the NCAA and CIS. It is yet to be determined if they will compete in the Female Prep or Female Varsity Division for the 2016-17 season.
“The CSSHL is excited to have the Warner Hockey School join the Female Division,” said CSSHL chairperson Andy Oakes. “As a long time Hockey Canada Sport School specialized in female programing they will be a great asset to the league.”
It was also announced today that the Horizon School Division has appointed Bruce Bell as the Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations for the Warner Hockey School.
Bell has coached at many levels including the European League, the Alberta Junior Hockey League, Canadian University, as well as AA and AAA levels of minor hockey.
Prior to coaching, Bell spent 17 seasons playing professionally. Drafted 52nd overall by the Quebec Nordiques, he would go on to play 243 NHL games with the Nordiques, St. Louis Blues, New York Rangers and Edmonton Oilers.
As significant as his on-ice success as a player is Bruce’s commitment to the development of young people as hockey players and citizens. He has operated the Bruce Bell Hockey School for 16 years and has served as the Hockey Academy Director for Kate Andrews High School and R.I. Baker Middle School since 2007. He is also the Program Director for the AAA Foothills Elite Summer Hockey Program and serves as a coach and mentor with the Taber Golden Suns organization in Taber, Alberta.
“I look forward to working hand in hand with the student athletes, their families, Warner School and the Division while representing each of them in a professional manner,” stated Bell. “I have the utmost respect for the Village of Warner and greater rural community that surrounds the school. I am well aware how much the town has done for this program to be a success and I want all to know I realize it takes a collaborative partnership to succeed.”
