Two Vancouver Island programs welcomed into CSSHL

VANCOUVER -- The Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) is pleased to announce the inclusion of two new programs that will begin play starting in the 2014-15 season.

The Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (Langford, BC) and Shawnigan Lake School (Shawnigan Lake, BC) were accepted into the CSSHL following a vote by the five founding members of the league.

“We are excited about the growth of the CSSHL with the addition of two more programs,” said CSSHL Chairman Andy Oakes. “The addition of Shawnigan Lake School, being one of Canada’s top private preparatory boarding schools, shows the league’s commitment to academic excellence combined with athletic excellence. We are also pleased to have PCHA come back to the CSSHL after one year of operations as an independent sport school at the Elite 15s level and we feel the organization will be a positive member for the league going forward.”

PCHA will be icing a team in the Elite 15s Division, as well as the U18 Prep Division. The program will play their games out of the Westhills Arena in Langford, a suburb of Victoria.

“I think this legitimises us as a program,” said PCHA Director, Kelly Shields. “The Hockey Canada sport school model is long overdue on Vancouver Island. To see the progress we made last year and now with our acceptance into the CSSHL is an exciting time for us. We view the CSSHL as the top sport school development league in North America and it was our goal since the beginning to be part of it.”

Shawnigan Lake will ice one team during the 2014-15 season that will play in the CSSHL’s U18 Varsity Division. The team will play out of the Kerry Park Recreation Centre until completion of their proposed new arena.

“Being accepted into the CSSHL is huge for us,” said Kevin Cooper, Hockey Director of Shawnigan Lake School. “It’s been a long process getting ready to join the league for our first season. We are really excited about the opportunity to play in such a high-caliber league that is the CSSHL.”

The CSSHL was founded in 2009 and was specifically designed to enable like-minded players increased level of competition and exposure.

Details on the CSSHL’s 2014-15 division alignments will be announced during the month of June.
