The BWC Academy has named Richard Matvichuk their new Hockey Director.

Matvichuk, 46, spent the past three seasons as the Head Coach of the WHL’s Prince George Cougars after two seasons in the ECHL with the Missouri Mavericks where he was the Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations.

The Edmonton, Alta. product played parts of 14 seasons in the NHL with the Minnesota North Stars/Dallas Stars and New Jersey Devils. In 796 career regular season games, he notched 178 points (39-139-178), while also adding 24 points (5-19-24) in 123 career post-season contests.

Matvichuk won a Stanley Cup in 1999 with the Stars.

The defenceman was selected in the first round, eighth overall, by the North Stars at the 1991 NHL Draft. He played three seasons in the WHL with the Saskatoon Blades, being named the WHL Top Defenceman in 1992.
